Robert Newlin

Robert Newlin, 81, of West York, IL, died at 4:03 p.m. on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Arbor Rose Memory Care Home in Robinson, IL. He was born on August 27, 1936 in West York, IL, the son of Ernest Newlin & Nellie (Bohn) Newlin, both of whom preceded him in death. Bob married Sybil Joan Lynn on June 11, 1956, and she preceded him in death on July 21, 2012. He was also preceded in death by his twin brother, Richard Newlin. He is survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Becky & David Staley (Martinsville, IL); by his son, Kevin Newlin, (Trimble, IL); by his grandchildren, Mindi & Derek Sheets (Marshall, IL), Justin Watson (Robinson, IL), Neal & Ashley Newlin (West York, IL), Abby & Jeff Cooper (West York, IL), and Taylor Newlin (Robinson, IL); by his great-grandchildren, Avery, Ayla, Rilyn, Ali, Paislie, Alivia, and Grady; as well as several nieces and nephews. Bob attended West York Grade School and graduated from Hutsonville High School in 1954. He was always known as a hard-working man, having worked as both a construction worker and farmer for much of his life. He retired as an operating engineer with Local #841 in Terre Haute, IN, with whom he was a lifetime member. He was also a longtime member of the West York Bible Church, where he served as superintendent for many years. His faith was very important to him and he was often found deep in the Word. Bob was quite the homebody and could often be found woodworking and mowing at his beloved home. Though he had a rough exterior and was known to be a little argumentative, anyone who knew him could attest to the fact that he had a heart of gold. Over the course of his life, he helped countless people in need. His family and friends will remember this caring, funny, one-of-a-kind soul for as long as they live. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 17th at the Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home with burial following in the Bradbury Cemetery. Celebrant Curt Goodwine will officiate the services. Memorials may be made to the Bradbury Cemetery, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
