Robert W "Red" Dedrick

Robert W. 'Red' Dedrick, 87, of Robinson, died at 9:22 a.m. on Monday, December 22, 2014 at the Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson. Robert, or “Red” (as he was known to his friends and family) was born June 28, 1927 in Oblong, the son of Raymond Dedrick & Irene Taylor Dedrick. He was a 1944 graduate of Robinson High School, and went to work for Ohio Oil Company the same year. In 1945, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served his country during World War II, serving in Austria and Germany before being discharged in 1947. Back stateside, Red returned to Ohio Oil Company and went on to retire from Marathon Oil Company in July, 1986 as a foreman on the Platformer, with 45 years of service. He enjoyed square dancing with his wife Deloris for many years. Red also enjoyed the outdoors, whether he was spending time with his son-in-law on the farm or gardening. Red enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren play sports throughout the years. He was a member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69 and the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549. He loved the Lord and served as a deacon at the Duncanville Missionary Baptist Church, and in his later years, was a member of the Highland Avenue Baptist Church. Red married Deloris Mills on October 21, 1950, and she survives. He is also survived by his children & their spouses, Robert Michael & Diana Dedrick (Springfield, IL), Karen & Steve Pifer (Palestine, IL), DiAnna McNair & Ron (Robinson, IL); six grandchildren, Josh McNair, Zac & Debbie McNair, Luke McNair, Angela & Troy Erton, J.R. & Lindsay Pifer, and Brad & Megan Pifer; 6 great-grandchildren, Conner and Riley Erton, Kryton, Addison, Hudson, and Carson McNair; his brothers & sisters-in-law, Richard & Jean Dedrick (Robinson, IL), and Raymond & Sheila Dedrick (Apple Valley, CA); as well as several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry Dedrick. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 24th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, with Pastor Dwight McDaniel officiating the service. Burial will follow at the Robinson New Cemetery, with a military graveside service performed by the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23rd at the funeral home and from 10:00 a.m. until service time at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Highland Avenue Baptist Church or to the V.F.W. Transportation Fund, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
