Roger M. Elder

Roger M. Elder, 62, of Heathsville died at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 15, 2011 in the comfort of his home. He was born on July 7, 1949 in Vincennes, IN, the son of Millard Elder and Ada Smith Elder. He served his country in the U.S. Army, being stationed in Fairbanks, AK. Roger was a self-employed truck driver for over 40 years. He was also a member of the Pleasant View Church. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren.Roger married Marcia Richey on January 27, 1973, and she survives. He is also survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, April & Dan Hill (Biggsville, IL) and Shanna & Sean Ogle (Warner Robins, GA); his five grandchildren, Alec, Conner, & Benjamin Hill and Taylor & Dylan Ogle; his father, Millard Elder; his two sisters and brothers-in-law, Rita & Robert Greene (Vincennes, IN) and Rebecca & Steve Ramsey (Palestine); his three brothers and sisters-in-law, Marshall & Barb Elder (Duluth, MN), Ed & Suzanne Elder (Arnold, MO), and Mark & Sheila Elder (Robinson); his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike & Barbara Richey (Robinson); as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 19th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine, with nephew Dan Ramsey and Pastor Paul Phillips in charge of services. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 18th at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Palestine Food Bank or to the Oak Grove Cemetery, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
