Ronald Howard Miller, 74, of Palestine, IL died at the Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong, IL at 6:25 a.m. on Sunday, October 19, 2014. He was born July 2, 1940 in Hillsboro, IL, the son of Charles Howard Miller & Helen Lucille Shelton. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy, and was active duty at the end of the Korean War until the start of the Vietnam War. Back stateside, he was a truck driver for many years. He was an Eagle Scout and was a Boy Scout master for several years in Minnesota as well as in Palestine. He was also involved in United Methodist Men, the Pioneer Rangers, and was a member of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549. He was a certified Lay Speaker for the United Methodist Church. Ron maintained 38 years sobriety one day at a time. He is survived by his children, Sharon Ann Goodrich (Palestine, IL), Lisa Lucille Miller (Newcastle, IN), Ronald Howard Miller II (Sioux Falls, SD), Jodi Dea Miller (Webster, SD), and Sarah Jean Miller (Robinson, IL); 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his sister & brother-in-law, Shirley Ann & Lloyd Hughes (GA); his brother & sister-in-law, John & Marilyn Miller (Godfrey, IL); his half-sister, Gwen Stever (Centralia, IL); 1 nephew; 5 nieces; as well as a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-mother, Cleora Miller; his brother in infancy, James E. Miller; and sister, Bonnie Maxine Rhine. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25th at the Mount Carmel Cemetery, rural Brownstown, IL. Memorials may be made to the Crawford County Relay for Life, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
