Ronald "Ronnie" Sanders

April 19, 1951 — October 19, 2025

Ronald “Ronnie” Sanders, 74, of Oblong, IL, passed away on October 19, 2025, at Gibson Hospice Center in Terre Haute, IN.

Born on April 19, 1951, in Palestine, IL, Ronnie was the son of Elmer and Bernice (Jones) Sanders, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Vickie Sanders; an infant sibling; and his longtime companion, Pam Stifle.

Ronnie grew up in Hardinville and was a 1969 graduate of Oblong High School. Soon after, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. A hardworking man, he spent much of his career as a union ironworker and pipefitter. He also tended bar at the Moose Lodge and later served as Commander of the Flat Rock American Legion — both organizations that held a special place in his heart. For many years, he helped his brother on the family farm, continuing as long as his health allowed.

A lifetime member of both the Moose Lodge and the American Legion, Ronnie was happiest outdoors. He loved coon hunting, fishing, and camping — especially the yearly trips to Sam Parr, where pontoon rides and campfire stories became treasured memories. He was often found near the river with his beloved dog, Duke, his loyal companion until Duke’s passing.

Above all, Ronnie loved his family. He is survived by his daughters, Leslie Sanders and Alisha Sanders Goff; his grandchildren, Tristan Duran, Daytona Duran, Josie Goff, Emma Goff, and Brielle Goff; his great-grandchildren, Ledger Duran, Beau Zuber, and Briar Zuber; his brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Kay Sanders; his sister, Barbara Garrard; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Ronnie is to be cremated, a family service will be held at a later date. Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is assisting the family with arrangements.
