Ronnie Gene Weger, 76, of Effingham, IL, formerly of Crawford County, IL and Dietrich, IL, died Friday, May 1, 2015 at Saint Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham. He was born May 23, 1938 in Flat Rock, IL, the son of Marshall Weger & Frances Weger. Ron lived much of his life in Crawford County, having gone to school in Oblong and having lived in Robinson until he and his wife moved to Dietrich, IL in 1978. Ron married Alma Jean Clark on November 1, 1958, and she survives. He is also survived by his son & daughter-in-law, Rick & Vickie Weger (Arthur, IL); his daughter & son-in-law, Ronda & Rick Koester (Effingham, IL); his grandchildren & their significant others, Rikki & Jordan Parker (Baton Rouge, LA), Dr. Andrew & Andrea Koester (Carterville, IL), Adam Koester & fiance Angelia Sprehe (Mattoon, IL), and Marisa Koester (Carbondale, IL); his sister-in-law, Louise Weger (Robinson, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Larry Weger. Ron will be remembered for his love of sports. He excelled athletically at an early age, and was a member of the Flat Rock basketball team that went on to the state championship. Upon graduating, Ron tried out for both St. Louis’ & Pittsburgh’s Major League Baseball teams. While he didn’t make the cut, his love of St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball never faded. He also enjoyed nearly forty Indianapolis 500 races in his life. Ron worked for Ameren for many years before retiring as a shift supervisor in operations. He was a member of the Mullen Baptist Church in Montrose, IL. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5th at the Mullen Baptist Church in Montrose, IL. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6th at the church with Pastor Tom Cosat officiating the service. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Jones Cemetery, rural Flat Rock, IL. Memorials may be made to the Mullen Baptist Church in Montrose, IL, with envelopes available at both the church and at the graveside service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock, IL is in charge of arrangements.
