Roy Eugene Chiddix

Roy Eugene Chiddix, 75, of Effingham, formerly of Palestine died at 3:15 a.m. on September 14, 2013 at the Carle Memorial Hospital in Urbana, IL. He was born on April 28, 1938 in Heathsville, IL the son of William Charles Chiddix & Hazel Nolene Roderick. Roy graduated from Robinson High School in the class of 1955. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force, enlisting in July 1955 and serving until April of 1959. He was an operator for B & O Railroad from 1959 until 1969. On May 8, 1969, he started working for Marathon Oil Refinery, and retired as the chief operator of the crude unit in 1996. He was a member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69 and of the Outer West Market Church in Palestine.He married Linda Nidey on August 20, 1961 and she preceded him in death on May 29, 1995. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Wendy Chiddix; his brothers, Millard and George Chiddix; his in-laws, Richard & Charlene Nidey, Geneva Nidey, and Floyd Gullett.He is survived by his special friend, Marian Frye; his children & their spouses, Rick & Paulette Chiddix (Palestine), Barb & Mark DiMarzio (Springfield, IL) and Kathy & Rocky Wesley (Palestine); his grandchildren & their spouses, Tony & Samantha Chiddix, Mickie Chiddix, Travis & Erika Guess, Krystina Guess, Jared & Danielle Wesley, and Brianna Wesley; his step-great-grandson, Christopher Snow; his great-granddaughter, Hadlee Chiddix; his sister, Nona Gullett; his sister-in-law, Leah Chiddix; as well as his brothers-in-law, Donnie & Judy Nidey and Norman & Debbie Nidey.A visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 16th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. A graveside service will follow in the Palestine Cemetery, with Pastor Tim Watson officiating. Memorials may be made to the Outer West Market Church, Palestine or to the Heartland Christian Village, 101 Trowbridge Rd., Neoga, IL 62447, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
