Ruby Gay Bex

Ruby Gay Bex, 87, of Terre Haute, IN, formerly of Oblong, IL died at 4:00 p.m. on September 21, 2016 at the Westridge Health Care Center in Terre Haute. She was born May 16, 1929 in Oblong, the daughter of Benjamin Mendenhall & Connie Smith Mendenhall, both of whom preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by her sons, Bob Bex on February 4, 1986 and Rondell Bex on March 19, 2013; by four brothers, Othel “Chub” Mendenhall, Earl “Pinky” Mendenhall, Purl Mendenhall, Bennie Mendenhall, and Earnie Mendenhall; and by her sisters, Edna Jacobs and Bessie Hale. She is survived by her daughter, Roberta Tribby (Farmersburg, IN); by her sons & daughters-in-law, Raymond & Gloria Bex (AZ), Rod & Marsha Bex (Terre Haute, IN), Roger & Georgia Bex (Terre Haute, IN), and Richard Lee Bex (Terre Haute, IN); by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; by her brother & sister-in-law, Buster & Wanda Mendenhall (Mount Sterling, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Ruby worked many years in quality control for Columbia Records in Terre Haute. Away from work, she was renowned for her cooking and baking skills. Her family and friends alike have fond memories of her delicious made-from-scratch apple dumplings and homemade noodles. While she enjoyed spending time in the kitchen, nothing gave her more joy than being with her family, who have lost a mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. (Central Standard Time) on Saturday, September 24th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will follow and will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial following in the Oblong Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Developmental Services, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that provides services for adults and children with mental, physical and emotional disabilities.
