Russell J. Shotwell, 68, of rural Robinson, IL, died at 10:35 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2017 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 13, 1948 in Detroit, MI, the son of Ralph Emery & Mary (Ridsdale) Shotwell, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, leaving six brothers and two sisters surviving. He married Mary Gyarmati on October 17, 1970, and she survives. He is also survived by his children, Russ & Alycia Shotwell (Robinson, IL); and by his four grandchildren, Samantha, Briana, Tristan, and Gabriel; by a brother-in-law; as well as several nieces and nephews. Russ attended Lincoln Park High School in Lincoln Park, MI and went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Back home, he worked in the coil coating industry for several years, a longtime employee of Wolverine Aluminum. Following his tenure at Wolverine, he went back to school and graduated from Lincoln Park in 1990. Russ always stayed busy, and could often be found working under the hood of a car. More than anything, he loved spending time with his beloved grandkids, who meant the world to him. It was his wish to be cremated without any formal services. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
