Ruth Evelyn Goodwin, 90, of rural Palestine, IL, died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Crawford Memorial Hospital, Robinson, IL. She was born November 13, 1922 in rural Palestine, the daughter of Earl Espy and Edith Fox Espy. She was a homemaker and farmer€™s wife, a teacher at Meskimen School and the Palestine Grade School. She was a member of the Wesley Chapel Church, Greenhill Church, and the Palestine United Methodist Church when she taught Sunday School for many years. Ruth Evelyn was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, Crawford County Home Extension and Current Topics Club.Ruth Evelyn married Wendel Goodwin on June 2, 1946, and he survives. She is also survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia and Duane Reardon, Altamont, Marilyn and Jeff Holmes, Villa Grove, Lois and Joe Davisson, Wheaton; eight grandchildren, Jeanie Reardon, Beth Wiessing, Kim Meyer, Curt Reardon, Emily Joost, Michael Holmes, Katy DeMille, and Grant Davisson.She was preceded in death by her parents; and her two sisters, Marjorie Illyes and Kathryn Herning.Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 11th at 10:30 a.m. at the Palestine First United Methodist Church with Jane Drake officiating. Burial will be in the Palestine Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, May10th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine from 4:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church.
