Ruth I. Shonk

Ruth I. Shonk, 84, of Annapolis, IL died at 9:08 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson, IL. She was born February 18, 1929 in Annapolis, IL, the daughter of Bertram & Maude (Freeland) Gower. Ruth was a homemaker, and loved being with her family and tending to her flowers. She was also an avid reader. Ruth was in the first graduating class of Lincoln Trail College, where she worked as a teacher€™s aide for a time. She attended the Highland Avenue Baptist Church.Ruth married Martin Lee Shonk on April 18, 1947 and he survives. She is also survived by two daughters & sons-in-law, Connie & Max Evans (Robinson), and Patricia & Mark Brown (Roodhouse, IL); two sons, Mark Shonk (Robinson), and Andrew Shonk (Marshall, IL); ten grandkids & their spouses, Jeff Evans, Ryan & Angie Evans, Matthew & Jennifer Graham, Chad & Jenelle Graham, Amy Graham, Whitney Shonk, Mike Shonk, Natalie Shonk, Landyn Shonk, and Lyndee Shonk; 8 great-grandkids, Ashtyn Evans, Carter Evans, Payton Graham, Reagan Graham, Abigail Graham, Madlyn Graham, Isabella Fazio, and Maria Fazio.She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; four sisters; her son, Michael Shonk; and her daughter-in-law, Mary Shonk.A memorial service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23rd at the Highland Avenue Baptist Church in Robinson with Rev. Jerry McDaniel officiating the service. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until service time at 7:00 at the church. Memorials may be made to the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, with envelopes available at the church. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
