Ruth Maxine “Patty” King, 89, of Robinson, IL, died at 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at Heritage Health in Robinson. She was born May 14, 1925 in Grant County, IN, the daughter of Tony Spence & Gertrude Holloway. Patty married Harold Edwin King on December 27, 1949, and he preceded her in death on October 24, 2006. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ralph Spence; her sister, Catherine Leona Spence; and her son-in-law, Marshall Guyer. She is survived by her children, Cathy Guyer (Hutsonville, IL), Mark King (Robinson, IL), and Cynthia King (Hutsonville, IL); her grandson, Jared & Deb Guyer (Norman, OK); her great-grandson, Marshall Guyer (Norman, OK); two brothers, Nolan & Norma Jean Spence (Brooksfield, FL), Larry & Rose Spence (Muncie, IN); her sister, Josephine Walker (Marion, IN); as well as several nieces and nephews. Patty lived a very fulfilling life. She graduated with a BS in Education from Indiana Wesleyan University and went on to teach 2nd Grade in Marion, IN and to substitute teach in Hutsonville, IL. Her true calling, however, was in the ministry, and served as a missionary in Cuba for two years, in Honduras for eleven years, on the Mexican border for nine years, and also served as an assistant pastor for Friends Church for a time and found purpose in teaching Sunday school for many years. A time of visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2nd at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson, with funeral services following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the Hutsonville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the World Gospel Mission, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
