Sammie Gene Bickers, 80 of Palestine, IL, died at 4:10 p.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at the United Methodist Village, Lawrenceville, IL. He was born May 29, 1931 in Jasper County, IL, the son of Perry Bickers and Susie O. Galloway Bickers. Sam was manager of the Robinson-Palestine Water Commission retired on March 15, 1997 after 45 years of service. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Gordon Gun Club, Vincennes Gun Club, Palestine Masonic Lodge # 849, and the Danville Scottish Rite Consistory. Sam married Ada Flo Weger on July 27, 1950 and she survives. He is also survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Vicki Bickers, Palestine, Monte and Sandy Bickers, Palestine; 4 grandchildren, Kara Hook, Sarah Bickers & friend Clint McCoy, Matt Bickers & friend Casey McDaniel, and Kris & Ashley Bickers; 5 great grandchildren, Karleigh & Trent Alderson, Wade Hook, Lyla & Colin Bickers; his sister and brother-in-law, Wanda & Delbert Green, Newton; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ron & Bonnie Weger, Robinson, and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jo & Les Carter, Flat Rock; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dale Bickers; his sister, Chola Bickers; and his in-laws, Millard & Maggie Weger, Donald Weger, Emerson & Mildred Trout, Charles & Georgia Lackey, Ray & Maxine Legg, and Don & Dorothy Inboden.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 17th at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Palestine with Pastors George Meese,and Brad Harris officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, December 16th at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church Benevolence Fund with envelopes available at the funeral home.
