Sarah Hussey

Nov 9, 1967 — Jun 29, 2026

Sarah Hussey, 58, of Flat Rock, IL, passed away on Monday, June 29, 2026, at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville, IN. She was born on November 9th, 1967, in Robinson, IL, to Joseph Fagin and Carolyn (Hightshoe) Fagin, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Mark Hussey; her sons, David Walter, Tony Walter, and Joseph Walter; three brothers, Patrick Fagin, Joe Jr. Fagin, and Donald Fagin; and her sister, Carol Jo Hahn.

If you wanted to know Sarah, you started outdoors, because that's where she belonged. She loved to fish—mostly at the local lakes—and she would tent camp just about anywhere her family could set one up. She liked to shoot, too, and was proud of the .380 automatic that Mark bought her. For years, she and Mark put in vegetable gardens, and she canned what they grew.

All of that found its way to her kitchen, because Sarah was a wonderful cook. Spaghetti was a staple at her house, made with tomatoes she had grown herself, and she rolled out homemade noodles by hand. Anybody who ate at her table left full and well cared for. That's just who she was: a caregiver. She took care of her aunt until she passed, and she looked after the people and animals in her life the same way. She kept chickens and had four dogs that she counted among her best friends. She even had a horse named Tex, and she rode him quite a bit.

But more than anything, Sarah was a mom and grandma. Two of her grandkids lived right there in the house with her, and she was known to play outside with them and climb into the pool right alongside them. That was where she was happiest, surrounded by her family with everyone close by. She gave her family a good life, and she loved every minute she got to spend in it.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 2nd, at Oak Grove Cemetery in rural Palestine, IL. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock is assisting the family at this time.
