Sarah "Ruth" Carter

October 13, 1931 — May 20, 2016

Sarah “Ruth” Carter, 84, of Robinson, IL, died at 8:15 p.m. on Friday, May 20, 2016 at the Ridgeview Care Center in Oblong. She was born October 13, 1931 in Palestine, IL, the daughter of Graydon Brashear & Goldie Climer, both of whom preceded her in death. Ruth married Cloyd Ray Carter on June 17, 1951 and he preceded her in death on June 9, 1988. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, William Brashear, Tom Brashear, John Brashear, and Dwight Brashear, and Russell Brashear. She is survived by her two daughters & sons-in-law, Carla & Gene Sinclair (Robinson, IL) and Sarah & Bret Callaway (Hutsonville, IL); by her grandchildren, Gina Sinclair, Andy Sinclair & Rudy Segovia, Wade Callaway, and Lauren & Douglas Gehrke; by her great-granddaughters, Abigail Callaway and Isabella Callaway; by her special friend, Marlin Correll; by her brother, Jim Brashear; by her sisters, Virginia White and Joan Shonk; and by several nieces and nephews. Ruth was a 1949 graduate of Robinson High School. She went to work for the pottery for a time, where she met her beloved husband. She went on to work for Crawford Memorial Hospital when it opened in 1961 as the executive secretary, a position she held for 33 years before retiring in 1994. When she wasn’t working, Ruth could most often be found spending time with her family, who she loved dearly. She will be remembered for her orderly and opinionated nature, and for how seriously she took her role as secretary. “Grammy” will be forever missed by her beloved family. She was a member of the Highland Church of Christ in Robinson. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 24th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25th at the funeral home with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Palestine Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Crawford Memorial Hospital Foundation or to the NOW (Nutrition on Weekends) Program, a program that sends supplemental food home on weekends with a specific number of students in the Robinson School District. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
