Scott Edward Courtney, 49, of St. Peters, MO, formerly of Hutsonville, IL, died at 8:53 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Peters, MO. He was born July 20, 1968 in East Point, GA, the son of Gary Lee Courtney & Sharon Elaine Williamson. Scott was a 1986 graduate of Hutsonville High School and went on to earn his MBA at Maryville University. He put his studies to good use, becoming the Director of Pricing Technology at Freddie Mac. In his free time, Scott could often be found outdoors, be that hunting or fishing. He was a lover of music, as anyone who knew him could attest. This love of music prompted him to pick up the guitar, an instrument that brought him countless hours of song. More than anything, he loved spending time with those he loved, be that his family or his many friends, who found the gregarious Scott Courtney to consistently be the “life of the party”. A light that shone as bright as his is sure to be missed for years to come. He is survived by his two beloved daughters, Emma Courtney (Brighton, MI) and Abigail Courtney (Brighton, MI); by his mother & step-father, Sharon & Dave Freeland (Hutsonville, IL); by his step-mother, Vera Kingery Courtney (Hickory Valley, TN); by his loving partner, Melissa Bryan (St. Peters, MO); by his siblings, Pam Freeland & Dave Baldwin (Mattoon, IL), and Chris Freeland & Chris Cozzoni (St. Louis, MO); as well as an extended loving family of aunts, uncles & cousins and a loving and supportive group of close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Lee Courtney. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00-2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home with burial following in the Newlin Cemetery. Rev. Jay Regennitter will officiate the services. Memorials may be made to “Responder Rescue”, an organization which Scott and Melissa supported for many years. Responder Rescue provides assistance, (emotional, tangible or monetary), to any St. Louis-area first responders who have been injured, become ill or suffered a traumatic situation after all other resources have been exhausted. Memorial envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
