Scott Patterson

December 3, 1955 — April 7, 2021

Scott Patterson, 65, of Palestine, IL, died Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born December 3, 1955, in Flora, IL, the son of Robert D. & Wanda Jean (Daniels) Patterson. He grew up the son of an itinerant preacher. Thusly, he and his family lived wherever the good Lord led. One of these postings led the Pattersons to Palestine, where he graduated high school in 1974 before marrying his high school sweetheart in 1975. To this union were born three children, who survive: Jeremiah, Sr. & wife Jonie Patterson (Palestine, IL), Joseph Patterson (Robinson, IL), and Christina Patterson Smith (Nebraska). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sierra Henry, Erikka Patterson, Jerra Patterson, Jeremiah Patterson, Jr., Christina Patterson, Jeremiah Daniel Patterson, Jessika Jo Patterson, James Kerley, and Alex Smith; by his great-grandchildren, Colter Joe Davis and Chloe Israel; by his mom, Marie Patterson (Olney, IL); by his special friend and partner of 35 years, Sherri Kinley and her family: Karen Tomanovich and her children, Dustin Tomanovich, Justin Tomanovich, and Ashley Jennings; by his brothers, Glenn & Barb Patterson (Cape Girardeau, MO) and Steve Patterson (St. Louis, MO); by several nieces and nephews; by Jeremy's dog, his buddy, Gizmo; and by his spoiled cat, Kitty. Those he leaves behind will remember a quiet, simple man; a sentimental soul who lived a good life. He was a dedicated employee of the Bob Stotlar Building Center in Marion, IL, where he worked as a foreman for over 30 years. Away from work, he could often be found rooting for his beloved Chicago Bears or following Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon on the race track. Though he enjoyed much of his 65 years, there was still a void left unfilled until just months ago. In January, he attended Men's Encounter weekend, and here, he dedicated his life to Christ, an event that completely changed him from the inside out. By the grace of God, Scott's last few months with us were filled with the Holy Spirit. We are thankful that the abundant, eternal life he found here will continue on into eternity. To quote the man himself: "Remember, hold onto HOPE, keep your FAITH, find JOY in the LORD, and we will all be together AGAIN." A time of visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 10th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. A funeral service will immediately follow and will be held at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Shane Bopp officiating. Burial will be in the Wells Cemetery, rural Wayne County, IL. In honor of the weekend that changed his life forever, memorials may be made to "Encounter Ministry", with envelopes available at the funeral home. *Please note that COVID-19 guidelines will be followed. Thusly, masks and social distancing will be required on-premises.*
