Sharon Wells

October 23, 1947 — July 28, 2025

Sharon Kay Wells, 77, of West York, IL, passed away on July 28, 2025, at Robinson Rehab in Robinson, IL. Known to some of her closest friends as “Greenie,” Sharon was someone who appreciated the simple joys of life: a freshly mowed yard, a full tank of gas, flowers in bloom, and food made from scratch. She was practical and strong, deeply rooted in both the land and in love.

Born on October 23, 1947, in Terre Haute, IN, she grew up in Melrose and graduated from Hutsonville High School in 1965. Not long after, she attended the Effingham School of Cosmetology, but her greatest education came through life itself. She married the love of her life, Greg Wells, on December 26, 1965, and soon, Sharon threw herself into the rhythms of farm life. Whether she was driving the grain truck during harvest or keeping things running smoothly in the elevator office, she was all in. She took pride in working hard and found peace in the everyday tasks that kept her hands busy and her spirit grounded. Take, for example, landscaping. She loved nothing more than mowing the yard, tending to her flower beds, and making the world around her just a little more beautiful.

Sharon didn’t need attention to feel fulfilled. She was content behind the scenes, surrounded by the people she loved most. Being a mom meant everything to her, and being a grandma brought her even more joy. She cherished the simple things: shopping trips with her friend, Lana, and quiet evenings at the piano, letting her fingers wander over the keys. In the Garden and You Light Up My Life were two songs she returned to over and over again.

In the final decades of her life, Sharon faced tremendous challenges. But through it all, Greg never left her side. His love and care for her were unwavering. And now, we take comfort in knowing that she is with him once again. And even more than that, we know that she is with Jesus.

She is survived by her children & their spouses, Chad & Casandra Wells of Melrose, IL, and Heidi & Nathan Piersall of Anderson, TX; by her grandchildren, Clayton Wells & fiancée Katlin Davis, Mason & Madison Wells, Savanna & Garrett Pritts, Lainey Heleine, Chase Heleine, Brendan Piersall, Owen Piersall, and Graham Piersall; and by her great-grandchildren, Kendall Wells, Charlotte Wells, and Carter Pritts. She also leaves behind her sister & brother-in-law, Marsha & Chuck Ogle; her brothers & sisters-in-law, Gary & Debby Green and Chris & Vickie Green; her sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Sue Randle & Todd Callahan; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Greg Wells; her grandson, Isaac Piersall; her brothers, Jackie Green and Jerry Green; her brother-in-law, Ronnie Randle; and her parents, Leo & Leah Mae (Kenderdine) Green.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Bailiff Cemetery. The Prust-Hosch Funeral Home in West Union is assisting the family with these arrangements.
