Sherry Walker-Taylor, age 70, passed away peacefully on November 1, 2018. Sherry was born to Kathryn Espy and Emerson Walker and raised in Palestine, Illinois. She received multiple degrees from the University of Illinois and worked as an art teacher for 46 years. Sherry spent the majority of her career at The Walker School in Marietta where she not only taught elementary art, but also served as a Gallery and Fine Arts Director. During her time at Walker, she launched an annual Arts Month, bringing talented artists, authors, and performers to the school. She dedicated herself to inspiring a love of creating among thousands of students. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry. She is survived by her brother (Bob and Jane Walker), sister (Melinda and Doug Pifer), daughter (Jessica and Clay Whittingham), and nieces and nephews and their children. Sherry’s greatest joy in life was being a Gammy to her three grandsons (James, William, and Christopher). A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 10th at the Palestine Cemetery, with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to “The Walker School Family of Funds”, directed to the Arts and in memory of Sherry Walker-Taylor.
