Shirley Ann Allison

October 9, 1937 — July 21, 2017

Shirley Ann Allison, 79, of Robinson IL died at 3:12 p.m. on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Carle Foundation Hospital Champaign, IL. She was born on October 9, 1937 in rural Eaton, IL, the daughter of Hobart & Ruth (Mann) Goss, both whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sisters and brother-in-law Cecil Ruth & Vale Morris, and Louise & Lyle Jessup; by her by her father & mother in-law, Harold & Mary Allison; by her brothers-in-law, James Allison, Howard Chapman, and Gene Hamilton; by her niece, Debra Allison; and by her great nephew, Shawn Allison. She married Don Allison on October 12, 1958 at the Christian Church in Hutsonville, IL, and he survives. She is also survived by her sisters, Reba Hamilton (Robinson, IL) and Ruby Chapman (Casey, IL); by her sisters-in-law, Mary Allison (Hutsonville, IL) and Kathy & Dennis Guyer (Annapolis, IL); by her brother-in-law, Wayne & Ann Allison (Sullivan, IN); by her nephews & nieces, Steve & Heather Allison, Scott & Jackie Allison, Shane & Melissa Allison, Howard Wayne & Laurabell Osborne, Gary & Linda Chapman, Marilyn Slater and Janet Isbell; by 10 great-nephews, 4 great-nieces, 2 great-great-nephews, and 4 great-great-nieces; as well as her many kids at church. Shirley was truly a lady of the church. For many years, she attended the North American Christian Conventions, the Convention of Christians, as well as the Highland Church of Christ in Robinson, which she assisted in establishing on February 9, 1959. Here, she stayed very active by playing the piano and organ, and also taught the Thursday morning Ladies Bible Study until chemotherapy treatments forced her to stop teaching. She worked many years for L.S. Heath & Sons before retiring from Hershey in 2000 as Senior Administrative Secretary. Away from work, Shirley & Don loved to travel, and together visited the Holy Land, Canada, and all 50 states. There’s no doubt that Shirley Allison led a beautiful and fulfilling life. She left her mark on her church, her friends, and her family, all of whom owe her a debt of gratitude for her many years of support, dedication, and love. A time of visitation will be held from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 25th at the Highland Church of Christ in Robinson. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26th at the Highland Church of Christ, with burial following at the Robinson New Cemetery. Pastors Shane Bopp, Mike McElyea, and Phil Young will be officiating services. Memorials may be made to Oblong Children’s Home or to Feed My Starving Children, with checks made payable to “Highland Church of Christ”. Memorial envelopes will be available at the church.
