Shirley Erwin Day, 79, of Bryan, TX, died at 3:12 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Hospice Brazos Valley in Bryan, TX. She was born February 20, 1936 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of James Monroe Erwin & Martha Vada Reynolds Erwin, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Ronald Day on May 23, 1959, and he survives. She is also survived by her sons, James Bryan Day & wife Karen (St. Louis, MO), and John Edward Day & wife Michele (Los Angeles, CA); by her grandson, Samuel Day; and by her granddaughter, Jacqueline Day. Shirley was a 1954 graduate of Cleveland High School in St. Louis, MO. She went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Central College in Fayette, MO, and her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Illinois in Champaign, IL. Shirley was a business and adult education teacher in the Champaign area for a number of years. Away from the classroom, she enjoyed quilting, and was a member of the Brazos Bluebonnet Quilt Guild. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2nd at the Mound Cemetery, rural Jasper County, IL, with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating the service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of arrangements.
