Stanley Ray Weir, 77, of Robinson, IL, died in the comfort of his home at 5:40 a.m. on Thursday, December 7, 2017. He was born June 15, 1940 in Weir (rural Clark County, IL), the son of Dennis D. Weir & Helen E. (Carpenter) Weir, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Sue Weir; and by his brother, Leon E. Weir. He married Joyce Kay Shelton on July 10, 1960 and she survives. He is also survived by his children, John S. Weir (Manchester, TN), David R. & Danielle Weir (Willow Hill, IL), Crystal L. Davis (Oblong, IL), Charlotte & Scott Akins (Oblong, IL), Raymond L. Weir (Oblong, IL), Jay Weir (Robinson, IL), and Julie & Doug Bower (Jewett, IL); by 15 grandchildren; by 13 great-grandchildren; by 1 great-great-grandchild; by his siblings, Milton D. Weir, Lois J. Daugherty, Lloyd D. Weir, Ruby A. St. John, Carolyn E. Wallace, and Gerald E. Weir; by 23 nieces and nephews; as well as numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. Stanley grew up in rural Clark County and attended Martinsville High School. He went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army, and earned numerous decorations and achievements along the way. Back home, he went to work for Victor Dana in Robinson for 38 years, where he earned his keep as both a tool & dye maker and as a steward through the International Association of Machinists & Aerospace Workers. Along the way, he earned an Associate in Applied Science Degree at Lincoln Trail College, among other certifications. Stanley achieved so much in his life, but didn’t boast about it. He will long be remembered for his humorous nature, and pulled countless pranks at work. Though he was a jokester at heart, he had a serious side, and was very protective of his family. Nothing meant more to him than his wife, kids, and grandkids. They could never forget this loyal and loving soul that meant so much to so many. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16th at the Kenderdine Cemetery, near Mount Olive Baptist Church, rural West York, IL, with Bro. Dwight McDaniel officiating. Military services will be conducted by the combined units of the Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, American Legion Post #69, and Marine Corps League Det #546, and the Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, Stanley’s family requests that memorials be made to your local cancer society.
