Tina York

April 11, 1956 — September 2, 2025

Tina York, 69, of Oblong, IL, passed away on September 2, 2025, in the comfort of her home. She was born on April 11, 1956, in Robinson, IL, the daughter of Floyd Stout and Betty Lou (Davis) Stout. She grew up in Crawford County, though she spent a few childhood years in Mississippi while her dad worked on a farm. No matter where life took her, home was always where her people were, and she gave herself to them fully.

Strong-willed and resilient, she was the kind of woman who saw things through to the end. She had little patience for procrastination, insisting things be done right and done right now. Her working years were a testament to her determination. After a short time at Monical’s Pizza, she began cleaning houses, and what started as a way to help provide soon became her life’s work. For 37 years, she kept homes across the county in order, at one point juggling more than 25 at once. She carried the same pride into her own home, keeping her yard neat and her spaces welcoming.

Tina was at home in the outdoors, too. She hunted deer and mushrooms, fished for bass, and once proved her skill as an archer by taking down a massive buck. She also possessed a creative streak and a restless energy that pushed her to try new things. She sewed dolls, made ornaments out of old quilts, and poured candles under the name “Heavenly Scents, Candles by Tina,” selling thousands over the years. She loved antiques (especially old dishes) and had a knack for finding treasures at garage sales and craft shows. Her kitchen was another canvas for her gifts. She expressed love through food, and her family knew it in every bite of zucchini bread, banana bread, chicken and noodles, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, and potato salad. And then there was dessert, her Spanish Cream Pie being the stuff of legend. She had an insatiable sweet tooth, but she also had an insatiable joy in sharing the things she made.

To Tina, family was at the center of it all. She and Roy shared a deep companionship, often found together at garage sales, restaurants, craft shows, or simply roaming the countryside. She delighted in being “Nanna” to her grandchildren, and her dogs Molly and D.O.G. were her constant companions. She lived for family gatherings, calling or texting daily just to hear her loved ones’ voices, often at the very moment they were thinking of her. “I was just about to call you” became the soundtrack of her relationships, especially with her son, Travis.

Tina’s outlook on life was simple but profound: don’t live in the past. She reminded those she loved that life was too short to carry regrets. What mattered was looking ahead, finding joy in the present, and pouring love into the people around you. That is the legacy she leaves behind.

She is survived by her husband, Roy York; by her son, Travis Irvin; by her grandson, Asher Irvin; by her father, Floyd Stout; by her siblings, Colene & Terry Rice, Elaine Stout, and Betty Jane Russell; and by her nieces and nephews, Brandy & Tony Humbers, Heather Cundiff, Abbygail Gangloff & Gib Manley, Matt York, Levi York & fiancée Kelly Wiggins, Nicole Buchanan, and Stephine Weger; as well as several great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Lou Stout, and by her brother, Floyd “Lynn” Stout.

It was Tina’s wish to be cremated without a public service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
