Van Earleywine

Van Earleywine, 84, of Palestine, IL, died at 11:35 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016. He was born April 24, 1932 in Palestine, the son of Charles Edward Earleywine & Lulu Ethel (Van Horn) Earleywine, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Zola Earleywine, Aubrey Earleywine, Neal Earleywine, Doris Newlin, Iris Newlin, Amos “Ted” Earleywine, Charles Earleywine, Jr., Keith Earleywine, Margaret “Peg” Whipkey, and Greta Bennett. He is survived by his daughter, Paula Earleywine (Indianapolis, IN); as well as several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Van was a 1950 graduate of Palestine High School. He went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Back stateside, he went on to work for the Illinois Central Railroad before becoming an ironworker, an occupation that he held until retirement. Even after retiring, he kept himself busy as the local handyman, always making time to help others. When he wasn’t working, Van could often be found joking around and telling stories. He also loved music and had a wonderful voice. He cared deeply for his family and for his friends. He will be dearly missed. A time of visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 12th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Todd Outcalt officiating the service. Burial will follow in the Palestine Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the combined Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549, Robinson American Legion Post #69, Flat Rock American Legion Post #132, and Palestine AmVets Post #33. Memorials may be made to the Palestine Preservation Projects Society (PPPS), with envelopes available at the funeral home.
