Velma Montgomery, 95, of Flat Rock, IL, died at 7:50 a.m. on Monday, September 22, 2014 at the North Campus of the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, IL. She was born May 12, 1919 in Russellville, IL, the daughter of Roscoe Johnson and Mary Evelyn Haughton. She was a member of the Flat Rock First Missionary Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She married Harry “Brick” Montgomery on May 16, 1940, and he preceded her in death on October 30, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Alan Montgomery in infancy; three brothers, Marvin Johnson, Ciney Johnson, and Byron Johnson; as well as her sister, Jean Weger. She is survived by her two daughters, Pam Montgomery (Lawrenceville, IL) and Yvonne Brandebourg (Flat Rock, IL); three grandchildren, Nikki Hobbs (Lawrenceville, IL), Jessica Hotchkiss (Whitehall, MI), and Chris Montgomery (Lawrenceville, IL); five great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. A time of visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 25th at the Jones Cemetery, rural Flat Rock.
