W. Carol Thompson, 85 of Robinson, IL, died at 6:00 a.m. Friday, September 14, 2012 at the United Methodist Village, Lawrenceville, IL. He was born February 19, 1927 in Chauncey, IL, the son of Roy Thompson and Rebecca Littlejohn Thompson. Carol was a paratrooper in the U. S. Army from October 1954 to October 1956. He worked for the Pottery for 45 years retiring in 1987. He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church, Robinson, Elks Lodge #1188, Robinson and was best known for painting signs all over the county.Carol married JoAnn (Ashley) Walls on December 7, 1979 and she survives. He is also survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Joy Thompson, Albuquerque, NM, Brad and Angela Thompson, Marshall, IL; his step-children and their spouses, Rick and Rhonda Walls, Dallas, TX, Kevin and Peggy Walls, Flat Rock, Vicki and Roger King, Annapolis, IL, Kathy Xanders, Robinson; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; his sister, Dorothy Green, Robinson; and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his step-son, Jeffrey Scott Walls; and 4 sisters, Millie Collins, Fern Wilson, Rose Badgley and Mary Fitts.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at the Goodwine Funeral Home, Robinson. Burial will be in the Robinson New Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 17th at the funeral home. Military services will be conducted by the combined units of the Palestine Am Vets Post #33, Robinson V. F. W. Post # 4549, Robinson American Legion Post #69, and Flat Rock American Legion Post # 121.
