Wanda Jane Walton

Wanda Jane Walton, 86, of Flat Rock, IL, died at 6:16 a.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017 at the South Campus of the United Methodist Village in Lawrenceville, IL. She was born on May 3, 1931 in Saint Francisville, IL the daughter of Lue & Martha (Shoulders) Goff, both of whom has preceded her in death. She married Clarence Walton on October 10, 1949, and he preceded her in death on October 13, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Stone, Betty Clark, Wilma Tewell, and Dorothy Hamilton; and by her brothers, Owen, Eugene, and Bill. She is survived by her daughters & sons-in-law, Judy & Robert Cloys (Lawrenceville, IL), Carolyn & Bobby Weaver (Flat Rock, IL), Susan & Ron McIntosh (Huntsville, AL), and Dixie Walton (Robinson, IL); by her two sons, Frank & Carmen Walton (Flat Rock, IL), Clarence J. Walton/Denise Walton (Robinson, IL); by her 12 grandchildren; by 25 great-grandchildren; by 1 great-great granddaughter; by her sister, Bessie Grigsby (Wilmington, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Wanda grew up in Billett, IL and attended Lawrenceville High School. She went on to become a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked for Lawrence County Memorial Hospital in Lawrenceville, Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, and then for Crawford Memorial Hospital in Robinson for 28 years before retiring in 1991. Away from work, she busied herself caring for her six children and her many grandchildren, who she loved with all of her heart. Anyone who knew her could attest to the fact that she genuinely enjoyed her life and could always be found with a smile on her face. She was a member of the Nazarene Church in Lawrenceville, IL and also attended the Christian Church in Flat Rock. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday September 5th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday September 6th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Flat Rock with Bro. Dwayne Sovdi officiating the service. Burial will follow at the Jones Cemetery in Flat Rock. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
