Warren L. Stephens

Warren L. “Roach” Stephens, 71 of rural Flat Rock, formerly of rural Palestine, IL, died unexpectedly, Saturday, October 11, 2014 at the Crawford Memorial Hospital Emergency Room in Robinson. He was born August 25, 1943 in rural Moonshine, IL, the son of Bruce A. Stephens and Rosalee Nebergall Stephens. Warren was a “Pipefitter” for 45 years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Local #157 Plumbers and Steamfitter Union in Terre Haute. After his retirement he helped his son Matt dig graves. Warren was a member of the Bible Chapel Church, present Treasurer, past Master and past Secretary of the Flat Rock Masonic Lodge #348. He was a 32 Degree Mason with the Valley of Danville Consistory, member of the Ainad Shrine Club of East St. Louis, and a member of the Crawford County Shrine Club. He married Darlene Highsmith November 14, 1987 and she survives. He is also survived his two sons and their wives, Matt and Cara Stephens, Palestine, and Chuck and Sharon Stephens, Robinson; 2 step daughters, Sarah Bays, Shelburn, IN, Katherine and Austin Hollingsworth, Marshall; 1 sister, Wilma Hannah, Olney, 3 brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Vicki Stephens, Terre Haute, In, Zon and Cherrie Stephens, Robinson, and Terry Strole, Champaign; 14 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded by his parents; 2 sons, Nikki Stephens and Andy Stephens; his brothers, Loren Stephens; and his step mother, Dorothy Stephens. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 16th at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4:00–7:00 pm at the funeral home with Masonic Services to follow at 7:00pm. Brother Joe Griffith is in charge of services. Burial is in the Good Hope Cemetery, rural Flat Rock. Memorials may be made to the Bible Chapel Church and to the Illinois Masonic Charities, with envelopes at the funeral home.
