Wayne Phipps

Wayne Phipps, 76, of Martinsville, IL, died at 12:51 a.m. (EST) on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born July 10, 1940 in Pana, IL, the son of Willard Phipps & Florence (Stivers) Phipps, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Hazel Phipps; by his brother-in-law, Richard Edwards; and by his nephew, Nicholas Leach. He married Janet Hill Phipps on October 25, 1969, and she survives. He is also survived by his daughter & son-in-law, Tawnya & Brett Riggins (Haubstadt, IN); by his son, Jerry Phipps (West York, IL); by his grandchildren, Olivia Riggins and Kaden Riggins; by his brother, Dennis Phipps (Girard, IL); by his sisters & brothers-in-law, Darlene Edwards (Pana, IL), Barbara & Charlie Pope (Springfield, IL), Peggy Waddington (Omaha, NE), and Rhonda & Leroy Leach (Pana, IL); as well as several nieces and nephews. Wayne grew up in Pana, where he attended school. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps and earned the rank of corporal before being honorably discharged after serving a four-year enlistment. Back home, he went to work for IDOT for 20 years. Away from work, Wayne could often be found hunting with his grandson Kaden or listening to his granddaughter Olivia tell a story, a trait she inherited from her grandfather--anyone who knew Wayne could attest to the fact that he liked to talk! He will long be missed by his beloved family and his many friends. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 21st at the Olive Branch Cemetery, with Celebrant Curt Goodwine officiating the service. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is in charge of arrangements.
