William "Barry" Caywood II, 83, passed away on May 18, 2026, in Evansville, Indiana.
Barry was born on October 4, 1942, at Brooks Hospital in Robinson, Illinois, to Nelson and Shirley Caywood. He grew up in Bridgeport, Illinois, and graduated from Bridgeport High School before attending Southern Illinois University, where he earned his bachelor's degree.
Barry spent many years living and working in the St. Louis area before eventually returning to Illinois to enjoy a quieter life in Flat Rock. He found great joy in the outdoors, especially birdwatching on his land. An avid reader, Barry enjoyed collecting books and science-themed magazines. He worked in maintenance at Crawford Memorial Hospital while also doing carpentry on the side, later transitioning to carpentry full-time until his retirement.
For 17 years, Barry courageously battled Parkinson's disease. As his health declined, he and his wife of 32 years, Doris (Jones) Caywood, moved to Evansville, Indiana.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; his daughters, MaryAnn (Scott) Ditch of Colorado, Jennifer Caywood of New Mexico, Lori (Tom) Schrautemeier of Missouri, and stepdaughter, DorothyAnn (Anthony) of Evansville, Indiana; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Sarah Laski of Palestine, Illinois; brothers-in-law, Doug Jones of Oblong and Darrell Jones of Robinson; and sister-in-law, Debbie Howard of Henderson, Kentucky; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Shirley Caywood, and his granddaughter, Tessa Christian.
It was Barry's wish for no public services to be held. Goodwine Funeral Home in Robinson is assisting with arrangements.
