William “Dewey” Wells, Jr., 89, of Palestine, IL died on Sunday, November 16, 2014 at Heritage Health in Robinson, IL. He was born June 29, 1925 in Minonk, IL, the son of William Dewey Wells, Sr. & Fannie Sydnor Wells. He proudly served his country as a rifleman in the U.S. Army in the Philippines and western Pacific during World War II, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and two Bronze Service Stars for his efforts. Dewey worked with his father on the Illinois Central Railroad for many years, and eventually retired as a Section Maintenance Foreman. He was involved with many local sports, having played men’s baseball and coaching women’s softball for many years. He was an accomplished bowler, and was oftentimes seen at the Robinson bowling alley. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Betty Jane Randall. He is survived by his brother-in-law, Eugene Randall (Decatur, IL); and his nephew, James Randall (Palestine, IL). Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22nd at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine with Pastor Paul Gray officiating the service. A time of visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until service time at 1:00 p.m.
