William Robert McCormick, 92 of rural Palestine, IL, died at 6:59 a.m. (est) Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN. He was born June 2, 1922 in Palestine, the son of Bernard Dillion and Lilly Esther McCormick. Bill was employed at Marathon Oil Co. as a driver, served in the U. S. Navy during WWII as an Aviation Machinist Mate in the Pacific Theater. He as a member of the Robinson American Legion Post #69 and the Robinson V. F. W. Post #4549. He married Irene Harris on January 19, 1952 and she survives. He is also survived by his two sons and daughter-in-law, Stanley Mark McCormick, Robinson, and Martin Lee and Carmen McCormick, Indianapolis, IN; 3 grandsons, Steven Thomas, William Earl Lee, and Jacob Benjamin Wayne McCormick; 2 granddaughters, Madison Taylor and Paige Alexander McCormick; 2 great-granddaughters, Madison Marie McCormick and Herminie McCormick; and 1 great-grandson, Ryder McCormick. He was preceded in death by his parents. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at the Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Palestine, with military honors being conducted by the combined units of the Palestine AmVets Post #33, Robinson V.F.W. Post #4549, Robinson American Legion Post #69, and Flat Rock American Legion Post #132. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine.
